At the Mitchell County Board of Education meeting on April 19th, the Board took action to officially close Harris Middle School and Deyton Elementary School, effective June 30, 2024. The vacant schools will be offered to the Mitchell County Commissioners, as required by law. After the Mitchell County Commissioners accept or reject the offer, further discussion will be held about the building. The next board meeting is scheduled for May 23, 2024 at 5:00pm at the Mitchell County Board of Education office. Harris, Deyton and Bowman will combine to be the new Mitchell Middle School. Plans are already underway for repurposing the Bowman Middle School building into a multi-purpose hub for county services and numerous community activities.
