Sharlene Szekeresh Greasamar, age 60, of Bakersville, North Carolina went home to be with the Lord on Saturday April, 27th. Charlene passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones. Charlene dedicated her life to serving others, from her family to her work as a Dental Hygienist and Massage Therapist, as well as her extensive volunteer work with Hospice and other organizations.
The Funeral Mass celebrating her extraordinary life will be held on Thursday, May 2nd at 11am at St. Lucien’s Catholic Church in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. The visitation will be held at Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine from 5-6PM on Wednesday May 1st. Charlene was born to Albert & Florene Szekeresh on January 1, 1964 in Colver, Pennsylvania. She attended elementary school at St. Mary’s and high school at Bishop Carroll High School before moving to West Palm Beach to study dental hygiene. Charlene met her husband Scott when she convinced him to be her practice patient for a dental exam. They married on February 22nd, 1992 and moved to Bakersville, NC shortly thereafter. The joy of Charlene’s life were her husband Scott and three wonderful sons, Ian, Zane and Liam.
In her career as a Dental Hygienist and later as a Massage Therapist, Charlene touched the lives of countless people in Mitchell and Yancey County. She continued this spirit of service through her extensive volunteer work with Hospice, where she contributed her time and skills as a Massage Therapist.
In May of 2013, Charlene was diagnosed with a brain tumor. When her diagnosis caused her to become physically unable to continue her career, Charlene maintained her spirit of service by volunteering at the St. Lucien food pantry and baking innumerable goodies for family, friends, and parishioners at St. Lucien’s, as well as enjoying her love of jewelry making to give to as many people as she possibly could. On most days you could find Charlene playing Rummikub with her mother Renie or visiting with close friends and family at her home on Bad Creek.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Danny Szekeresh.
She is survived by her husband, Scott; her sons, Ian, Zane, and Liam, their spouses, Lindsey, Hannah, and Dylan; her grandchildren, Mia and Alex; and her siblings, Kathi, Michelle, and Janice.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Charlene’s name to Hospice and Home Care of the Blue Ridge at 236 Hospital Dr, Spruce Pine, NC 28777
