Sarah Patricia Rector Vess, age 86, went Home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2024, at Yancey House in Burnsville, NC.
Born on June 5, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lew and Cora Lee Rector.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marvin Claude Vess, Jr.; her sister, Thelma Presnell; and brothers: Frank Rector and Stanley Rector.
Patricia graduated from Micaville High School and went on to attend Gardner-Webb University. She was joined in marriage to Marvin Claude Vess, Jr. in June of 1958, and were later blessed with four children. Claude preceded her in death on May 23rd, 2021. Pat was a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ and served alongside her husband in many ministries including Avery County Prison Ministries. She was a dearly kind woman who never missed an opportunity to pray for others and share the great news of the gospel. Her passion for loving others inspired us all and will continue to shine on in the lives of all that knew her. She was a substitute teacher for many years and loved sharing her joy with the students she taught. She departed this life peacefully in the presence of her family, then went on to be with her husband and true love, once again.
Her life will forever be treasured by her children: Marcus Vess of Atlanta, GA, Harriet Vess McGinnis of Mars Hill, NC, Eric (Sonya) Vess of Burnsville, NC, and Marvin Claude Vess III; as well as thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and her sisters, Lorene Craddock, and Frances McMahan.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville, NC. The family will receive friends and loved ones one hour prior to the service for visitation. Dr. Hudson McGinnis will be officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Robinson Cemetery off Rock Creek Road in the Busick Community of Burnsville, NC.
The family would like to give special thanks to the amazing staff at Yancey House and Medi Home Health and Hospice for the loving care they provided. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pat’s name to Medi Home Health and Hospice at 400 Shadowline Drive, Suite 102 – Boone, NC 28607.
