William “Bill” Carl Brooks Jr.

William “Bill” Carl Brooks Jr., 79, of Burnsville, NC passed away peacefully at home on May 6th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 30th, 1944 in Mobile, Alabama to his parents, William Carl Brooks, Sr. and Mary Helen Brooks.  Bill graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, Alabama and earned his Bachelor of Science from Livingston University. Bill proudly served our country in the Army National Guard. His career allowed him to live many places in the U.S., but his home was in the NC mountains. Bill loved fishing, hunting and camping. We know he is in Heaven, catching the biggest fish and celebrating around the campfire. Bill was always joking around and he enjoyed giving the kids a hard time, to which everyone would reply with the phrase, “Shut up, Bill!”

He was preceded in death by both parents; his sisters: Bettye Westercamp and Carol Hyland; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Audrey Boston; brother-in-law, Don Westercamp; and a nephew, Ricky Westercamp.  He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janet Boston Brooks; both of his favorite daughters: Jeniene Smoot (Daren) and Carla Ervin (Raymond); brothers-in-law: Jim Hyland and Greg Boston; a sister-in-law, Amelia Stafford (Philip); grandchildren: Josh (Wendy), William Cody, Tyler (Katelynn), Leah (Chesley), Annalee and Addison; great-grandchildren: Lilah, Gracen and Kadence; nieces: Kim, Renee, Shannon, Tara, Casey, his Caitlin; and a nephew, Jeremy. In addition to his immediate family, he leaves behind many extended family members and friends who meant a lot to him. He will be missed by his cats, Dora and Dixie, whom he dearly loved.

Celebration of his life will be at Yancey Funeral Services at 378 Charlie Brown Road in Burnsville, NC on Friday, May 10th at 2 p.m. with Chaplain Joe Bennett officiating the service. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. before the service.
