Orville Lloyd Moye, age 95, formerly of Sun City, CA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 8th, 2024 in Green Mountain, where he came to live with John and Ann Schortinghouse due to his declining health. He was born on September 30th, 1928 to Arvilla Loyd and Rachel Gallamore Moye. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Marilyn Moye; brother, Joseph Moye and a son-in-law, Joe Placencia.
Lloyd attended Messick High School in Memphis Tennessee, while Elvis Presley attended. He was a WWII Navy Veteran who got to see the atomic bomb tested on Bikini Island while serving aboard the USS Avery. Later in life he was a salesman for G.E. where he sold jet airplane engines internationally and retired at the age of 55. He loved to go on cruises, he and Marilyn went on over 250 cruises in their life together. Lloyd was a generous man who dearly loved his family and enjoyed going to the Mountain Heritage ball games when he was able.
Surviving are his daughters: Beverly Placenia and Margaret Bersch (Richard); grandson, Andrew Bersch; two great-grandsons all of California and special cousins: John and Ann Schortinghouse, Tom and Myung Hee Moye, TJ and Stephanie Wright, John Paul and Myrna Schortinghouse, and Blandon and Kim Silvers; as well as their children and grandchildren.
The family would like to say a very special thank you to Pastor Chris Morgan and the Bolens Creek Baptist Church Family, Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, Doctor Megan Fox and Hopscotch Medical Facility, and special “buddy”, Janice Riddle, for the wonderful love and care given to Lloyd.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15th at Bolens Creek Baptist Church. Dr. Chris Morgan will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 6 prior to the services at the church. Pallbearers will be: TJ Wright, John Paul Schortinghouse, Jr., Blandon Silver, Forrest Horan, Airman John T. Wright, Aidan Silver, AJ Silver and Adam Silver. Burial will be in the Riverside Military Cemetery in California beside his wife, the love of his life.
