Burnsville Elementary School Addition

PRESS RELEASE:

In an exciting event for Yancey County Schools and our community, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Burnsville Elementary School addition marks a significant step towards enriching educational opportunities for generations to come. With shovels in hand and hearts full of hope, YCS administration and Board of Education members, Yancey County Commissioners, and representatives from McMillan Pazdan Smith and Harper General Contractors gathered to commemorate the commencement of this transformative project.

The 25,000 sq. ft. addition of 14 classrooms reflects a commitment to meeting the evolving needs of a growing population. As enrollments rise and educational standards evolve, it becomes imperative to invest in infrastructure that can accommodate the demands of a modern educational landscape. The new addition promises not just more classrooms but also specialized spaces designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking among students.

Beyond bricks and mortar, the groundbreaking symbolizes a commitment to education and our community. The new addition will provide opportunity for students and teachers to flourish in state-of-the-art facilities that will help bring Yancey County Schools well into the future. Board of Education Chairman shared, “Words could never express the excitement we experience as Yancey County Schools enters a new phase of progress. We are certainly appreciative of all that have made this a reality for our school system. Most of all, we thank God for his favor. While each new project is exciting, we are most eager for the opportunity this allows for additional student growth. Thank you to all who have worked so tirelessly to see this come to fruition. Thank you parents and staff for your continued support. Keep watching as many more projects arrive, bringing every student exciting new opportunities for success.”

The groundbreaking ceremony is not just a celebration of construction; it’s a testament to the power of community collaboration. The realization of this project is the culmination of efforts from educators, administrators, parents, and local authorities who share a common vision of providing the best possible education for children. YCS is extremely grateful for State Superintendent Catherine Truitt, NC Senator Ralph Hise, the Yancey County Commissioners and the many other community members who worked behind the scenes to secure the $15 million in grant funds to see this project come to fruition. Through their collective dedication and support, the dream of a more vibrant and spacious learning environment is transformed into reality.

In essence, the groundbreaking for the elementary school addition is more than just a construction project; it’s a testament to the values of progress, innovation, and community that lie at the heart of education in Yancey County. As this project takes shape in the coming months, and our other construction projects begin and progress, YCS will continue to keep the community updated of our progress.
