AdventHealth has received approval to move forward with their plans to build a hospital on a 30-acre site on the outskirts of Weaverville.
A North Carolina administrative judge on Friday, May 10, upheld AdventHealth’s Certificate of Need to build the new hospital.
The state previously approved AdventHealth’s application, but Mission Health appealed in November of 2022.
Victoria Dunkle, an AdventHealth spokesperson said it will bring competition and choice to the people of Buncombe, Graham, Madison, and Yancey Counties, for their healthcare, if Mission doesn’t appeal again.
Since the group’s original 67-bed proposal, it also plans to apply to add 26 more beds to the new site. The project is expected to create over 600 jobs and take between 18 months and two years to complete, with groundbreaking expected to by the end of 2024.
AdventHealth has planned a Listening Session for area residents May 14, 4-6pm, at Yancey Community Center, formerly Yancey Senior Center. The AdventHealth Leadership team will be on hand to answer questions about the new hospital.
