Mitchell High Students Participate in SECU “Reality of Money”

On Monday, May 6th, students during each block at Mitchell High School participated in SECU’s Reality of Money Event, provided by Mitchell CTE and the SECU.  For the event, State Employees Credit Union staff, and school and community volunteers helped students walk through a financial simulation where they paid bills for a month using a fictional career and monthly income. They were required to pay expenses at stations like housing, transportation, child care, groceries, and medical insurance. The last stop was the Next Payday station, where volunteers and SECU staff saw if they were wise in spending and budgeting their money and gave advice on how to further stretch their dollars and make sound financial decisions. This event truly helps to teach MHS students the “Reality of Money.”.  Stephanie McClellan and CTE would like to send a special thanks to Kim Stephenson and Caleb Hoyle of the SECU-Spruce Pine branch for their help in coordinating this event.
