The family would like to do a combined memorial service later in the year at Mt. Zion Methodist Church for both David and Tokuko Dayton due to several family constraints. A date/time has not been set.
David was born in Crossnore, NC on October 12, 1940, to his parents John Schuler and Margaret Dayton. He married Tokuko Kashio on November 13, 1962, three different times/ways. He meant business when it came to keeping this lady by his side. David met Tokuko while serving his country in the Air Force.
David is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Tokuko Dayton; his parents, John Schuler and Margaret Dayton; six of seven of his siblings, John, Ruth, Bob, Rachel, Corena and Tony.
Left to treasure his memories are his children, David H. Dayton, Jr. and his wife, Tammy; Kim Smith and her husband, Keith; his brother, Roger Dayton; his grandchildren, Dawson Dayton, Samantha Johnson, Sam Mauney and her husband, John; Ben Smith and his wife, Barbara; his great-grandchildren, Melody Smith; and future great grand baby Mauney.
David was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church. He taught Sunday school and Wednesday night Bible study as well as occasionally lay-speaking behind the pulpit. Dave, as many folks called him, was active in the community by either coaching or refereeing youth sports, basketball and football) thru the Optimist Club, Mitchell Recreation Little League or Travel Basketball. David worked in accounting and computers all his professional life and retired from Brad Ragan, Inc 18 years ago. He loved watching sports on TV, especially his Dodgers, Redskins and Duke Blue Devils. David was a family man in every sense of the word, and always showed his support by attending any event his children and grandchildren participated in with Tokuko by his side.
