Donald James Bouret, age 95, of Green Mountain, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2024. Born March 4,1929 in Boston, Massachusetts, he became a Yancey County resident in 2005.
Don was an active member of the Burnsville community. He built houses with Habitat for Humanity, built stage props for the Burnsville Little Theater, and delivered many Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart and Knights of Columbus. An avid music fan, he rarely missed a concert at the Town Center or Micaville Music.
Don, a Korean War Navy Veteran, was a well-known and respected arborist in Michigan, before retiring to North Carolina. He loved working with wood and enjoyed building custom furniture, as well as replicas of the North Carolina lighthouses.
Always on the move, Don loved to travel, exploring the United States in his RV, first with his wife, Ruth, and later with his granddaughter, Kallan. He explored the eastern seaboard on board a boat, traveling north and south several times as well as crossing to the Bahamas.
Don was predeceased by his wife, Ruth, and leaves behind a son, Donald Jr, and his daughter, Susan (Ian) Garriques, granddaughter, Kallan Reeves and great granddaughter Destiny Reeves.
