Hanford G. Hughes, age 81 of the Buladean Community went home to be with the Lord May 24, 2024. A native of Mitchell County, NC he was a son of the late Garland and Dorothy Jenkins Hughes. Hanford was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Paul Freewill Baptist Church. He was previously employed as a Millwright Worker and also at Sibelco formerly Unimin Corporation.
Hanford enjoyed gardening, canning, and mowing his lawn however his happiest times were spent with his beloved children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all of his family.
Survivors include his two sons Michael “Mike” Hughes (Sherry), and Richard “Mark” Hughes (Angel) all of Bakersville, NC, one sister Barbara Birchfield, two brothers George and David Hughes, all of Bakersville, NC, four grandchildren: Michelle Hobson (Chris), Kimberly Hughes (Daniel), Matthew Hughes (Elisabeth) and Aaron Hughes (Faith), and four great grandchildren: Courtney Hughes, Addison Hobson, Chloe Hughes, and Haizley Hughes, and also his many friends in the church and community he loved.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Jean Hughes who passed in 2013.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM in St Paul Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 2:00PM in St. Paul Freewill Baptist Church with Reverends Aaron Hughes, Matthew Hughes, and Gordon Lewis officiating. Interment will follow the service at Hughes Cemetery Blevins Branch Rd.
