Robert Junior McKinney age 82 of Wes Jones Road in Newland the Powdermill Community passed away Monday May 20, 2024, at the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.
Born in Avery County, he was a son of the late Robert and Lora Buchanan McKinney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Jackie Woody McKinney, four brothers, Russell, Arnold, James and Ernest McKinney and three sisters, Patsy Hughes, Dorothy Watson and Nelle Buchanan.
Junior worked for the Avery County Solid Waste department before retiring, he was a member of Powdermill Baptist Church, and loved reading his bible, and enjoyed getting outside and walking and whittling on sticks.
Left to cherish his memories is his son Alan McKinney of Newland, grandson, Robert Joseph McKinney of Newland, granddaughters, Michelle Roberts (Steven) of Morganton, Lora McKinney of Morganton, and Taylor McKinney of Spruce Pine, ten great grandchildren and two sisters, Ruth McKinney of Elk Park and Carolyn McKinney of Spruce Pine.
A memorial service for Mr. McKinney will be held at 2:00 pm Friday May 31, 2024, at the Powdermill Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Burnop officiating.
