Sibelco has acquired Strategic Materials, Inc. (SMI), a major glass recycler in North America. This purchase strengthens Sibelco’s global presence in glass recycling, adding SMI’s 42 North American sites to its existing 24 European recycling plants. Together, they will process around 5 million tons of recycled glass annually.
Sibelco’s CEO Hilmar Rode expressed excitement about the acquisition, highlighting its role in expanding their business in North America. SMI employs about 800 full-time workers across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
