M. Sue Piper

M. Sue Piper, age 81, of Upper Browns Creek, went to sleep in the Lord on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends.

A native of Tallahassee, FL, she was a daughter of the late Geoffrey Cartledge and Clara Cartledge. She was also preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Donald and Dorothy Piper and siblings: Jack Cartledge, Doris Barbree, Julia Lawhon and Dot Ellis.

Sue received her Master’s Degree in education, teaching from elementary education to university education. She and her husband, Ernest, were very involved in the Seventh-day Adventist Church throughout the United States until making their final home for the past 16 years in Burnsville. She volunteered at the Barking Basement, always supporting shelter animals. Sue was a very accomplished artist enjoying stained glass, wood drawings and stone polishing. She loved flower and vegetable gardening as well.

Surviving is her loving husband of almost 54 years, Ernest Piper; sister, Lenore Stokley of Erwin, TN; brother, John Cartledge of Tallahassee, FL; her canine companions: Biscuit and Sadie Mae and special neighbors: Fred and Ethel Goforth and Bob and Sonya Krause. Several nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate Sue’s life.
