Mitchell High School will break ground Monday, June 17th on their new student athletic complex. Included in the complex is a new softball field and projects to improve the track and baseball field. The complex will also feature an indoor practice field of 30 yards for football, a basketball court, a golf simulator, a wrestling area, drop down baseball nets and a weight room. Sports teams and the band will be able to use the area rain or shine. Middle and high school students can use the space during open gym events and it has been equipped with restrooms and concessions for hosting tournaments. Also included in the project is a road to go behind Mitchell High School for pickup and drop off and better access to the area. The complex will be located on the hill above and across from the current football field. One of the main reasons for building the complex was concerns for student safety. In the past basketball practices of multiple teams during the winter months, have left some students driving home as late as 11 pm in difficult weather. The entire project is expected to be completed within a year with the building expected to be finished late this fall and the softball field ready for the spring 2025 season. The complex has been funded by a $14.5 million grant.
