Nell Inez Adkins Johnson, age 87, of the Banks Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 1st, 2024 at Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Reuben and Fola Miller Adkins. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Darius Adkins. Nell was a loving wife and mother who was a God-fearing religious woman. She enjoyed reading, cooking, always the best meatloaf, carrot cake and pot roasts. Nell loved spending time with Douglas “Bill” on weekend trips and taking care of her father-in-law.
Surviving is her loving husband of 62 years, Douglas “Bill” Johnson; son, Mark Johnson and wife, Yvonne, of San Antonio, TX; sisters-in-law: Lois Herb and husband, Floyd and Anne Pearl Rice and husband, Arnold; nieces: Wanda Garrett and husband, Bill and Nikki McKinney and husband, Alan and a nephew, Joey Adkins and wife, Hawa. Numerous cousins and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 7th in chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Royce Ball will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Private burial will be held at a later date.
