Yancey Schools Summer Construction Update

During the first 30 days of summer in YCS, our schools have seen extensive updates. While most projects will take all summer to complete, the transformations thus far have been nothing short of impressive.

The most note-worthy progress has been made at East Yancey Middle School. The kitchen area has been completely demolished in preparation for new floors, kitchen equipment, and a larger serving line area. In the east end of the building, asbestos abatement was completed and new tile is scheduled to be installed in July. Student restrooms will receive new tile, fixtures and partitions while the office area receives important security upgrades. Cane River Middle, whose blueprint is nearly identical, is currently undergoing the necessary prep work to receive the same scope of updates in the coming months.

At Burnsville Elementary, storm drains and boxes have been installed and a large amount of dirt has been leveled to prepare the site for the new addition. Trees have also been removed in preparation for a wider entrance road.

At South Toe Elementary, classrooms are receiving fresh coats of paint, the kitchen is getting a complete makeover and the media center will have new flooring installed this summer. Student restrooms at Mountain Heritage High are getting a facelift on an individual basis.
