Groups React To Commissioners Change For Library

On June 28th in a special meeting, Yancey County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a written notice of intent to withdraw from the AMY Regional Library System effective on July 1, 2025. This move has sparked considerable debate and concern among local residents and library supporters. In response a Library Solidarity Walk is planned Monday, July 8th at 5 pm, prior to the Yancey Commissioners regular monthly meeting that is scheduled for 6pm that evening.

According to information about the walk, it will begin at the library and end around 5:45 pm at the courthouse.  Signs to show support are encouraged but they note that this is not a protest but a show of support for the current AMY Regional library system.

In a notice put out by the NC Alliance of Families, they claim that Queer Solidarity WNC is “planning an action in support of the AMY Library System and their immoral practices concerning minors.” The notice calls on all Christian men and supporters of family values to come to the Burnsville Town Square on Monday the 8th at 5pm to support the NC Alliance of Families.
