With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Melinda Sue Phillips Robertson; a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Sue passed away at home on July 6, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion.
Sue, born in 1954 and a native of Avery County, held unwavering love for her family. As a mother, sister and friend to many, Sue shared her heart full of kindness, with her warm smile and gentle spirit she served as a source of comfort to those around her.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Alan; daughter, Beth and husband, Corey Morris; daughter, Sarah and husband, Brandon Whitson; stepdaughter, Kelly and husband, Brandon Cross; three grandchildren: Mariah, Noah and Kaylee; her sister, Vicki Hill; her brother, Jeff and wife, Kim Phillips; her nephews and their families. Sue was preceded in death by her father, Hayne and mother, Hazel Phillips and a brother-in-law, Johnny Hill.
In her role as a successful small business co-owner for over 30 years, Sue’s entrepreneurial spirit helped the business grow to great heights, inspiring others along the journey.
Sue had a passion for reading and enjoyed a good story full of humor, history, and love. She enjoyed traveling, where she embraced new places and experiences with a curious mind. She found joy in exploring new destinations and creating cherished memories with loved ones.
Known for her generosity, Sue made a point to help others whether through acts of kindness, lending a listening ear, or offering a helping hand where she touched countless lives with her empathy and compassion. Her love knew no bounds, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 12th in Powdermill Baptist Church. Rev. Michael Burnop will officiate. Burial will follow in the Phillips Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
