Bob Webb

Bob Webb, age 91, of the Prices Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 9th, 2024 at Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Jeter and Vola Johnson Webb.  He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters:  Katrinka Webb Doan and her husband, Jeff, and Lucille Webb; brothers: Jim Webb and his wife, On, and Leacil Webb; brothers-in-law: John Buckner and Mike Reid, as well as a sister-in-law, Doris Wright and her husband, Frank.

Bob left for Michigan at a young age to work. Upon his return, he worked with Joe Young Ford as a mechanic.  He also built several buildings in town including Styles Automotive and the Yancey County Rescue Squad buildings.  He also worked at Mohasco for a short amount of time before owning and operating his dump truck business, Webb Trucking, until his retirement.  Bob was a member of Cane River Baptist Church for over 50 years.  He was an avid bowler, where he was placed in the North Carolina Hall of Fame for his accomplishments. Bob was also an avid racer (#29) and enjoyed watching all the local boys race cars, but above and beyond, Bob loved and cherished his family.

Surviving is his wife of almost 64 years, Mary Ruth Austin Webb; daughter, Bobbie Ruth Leibowitz and husband, David, of Burnsville; son, Mike Webb of Prices Creek; grandchildren: BJ Webb and wife, Amanda, of Prices Creek, Jason Holcombe of Burnsville, Cortney Taylor and husband, Philip, of Newdale and Jarrett Allen of Illinois; great-grandchildren: William Webb, Kylie, Keely, Trinity and Pierson Taylor; sisters: Peggy Buckner, Polly Austin and husband, Stokes, Alice Witt and husband Jim, all of Burnsville and Gail Reid of Canton, GA;  brother-in-law, Morris Webb, of Chesterton, IN; sisters-in-law:  Maxine McCurry, Rachel Buckner and husband, Donald, Susie Fox and husband, Tommy, and Karen Robinson and husband, Jim, all of Burnsville.  Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive, including all his many bowling friends around the country.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 14th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.  Rev. Matt Mills will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
