Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre (SART) is proud to announce the opening of two productions that have significant impact and relevance to the local community. SART is presenting The Tall Woman, a dramatic adaptation by Jim Overholt based on the novel by author Wilma Dykeman about the Moore and McQueen families, their mountain community, and their struggles in the 19th century during and following the Civil War. Alternating performances with The Tall Woman, SART presents a play by one of SART’s founding members, C. Robert Jones, entitled Taking a Chance on Love. This multigenerational romantic comedy is set on Kiawah Island in South Carolina and tells of what happens when Cupid’s arrows miss their mark. Taking a Chance on Love will be presented on SART’s mainstage, Owen Theatre, while the The Tall Woman will be presented in the round in the James Thomas Black Box Theatre.
The Tall Woman, directed SART Managing Artistic Director William Tyler Ezzell and featuring SART Alum and local favorite Amanda Ladd, opens Thursday, July 18 and is showing “in-rep” (alternating performances) with Taking a Chance on Love which opens Friday, July 19. Directed by the same director as the show’s world premiere (also at SART) in 2006, Bill Gregg, the show is a must see for supporters of Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre past and present alike.
