Clara Shirley Sparks, age 93, of Phil Buchanan Road in Spruce Pine, passed away Friday, July 12, 2024 at the Green’s of Spruce Pine.
Born on January 19, 1931 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Clay and Rosa Barlow Shirley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Cannon, Hal Dale and Lee Sparks. Also preceding her in death was her sons; Larry and David Cannon; her stepson, Kenny Dale; her stepdaughter, Lisa McKinney; her brother, Bob Shirley; and her sisters; Lois Church, Mary Helen Stamey and Sylvia Ollis.
Clara was a member of the Pine Branch Baptist Church and she was retired from Hampshire Hosiery.
Left to cherish her memories is her brother, Mike Shirley of Newland; her grandson, Charles Cannon and wife, Lorie of Asheboro; her granddaughter, Latisha Cannon Dirhold and husband, Steve of Marion; her grandson, James Cannon and wife, Cheryl of Dawson, GA; her stepchildren; Kenny Sparks and wife, Janet of Spruce Pine, Donald Dale and wife, Rella of Bakersville, Randall Dale and wife, Phyllis of Marion and Sylvia Dellinger and husband, Jimmy of Source Pine; eight grandchildren, ten step grandchildren, twenty-two step great grandchildren, six step great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 6:30 pm until 7:30 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 7:30 pm Monday, July 15, 2024 in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev’s. Bruce Cannon, Steve Williams and Andy Willis officiating. Interment will be in the Elk Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for their care of Clara. The family would like to extend a special ‘Thank You’ to Michael Shirley and Ruthie Shirley who visited Mrs. Clara weekly.
