Brenda Sue Hopson Peterson, age 83, of Burnsville, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 14th, 2024, at Mission Hospital. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Mitchell and Essie Woody Hopson. She was preceded in death as well by her husband, Fred Barker Peterson; two daughters: Sherry Peterson Troxell and Jamie Peterson; a grandson, Jason Troxell; five sisters: Gertrude Wilson, Elva Turpin, Gineva Lawrence, Betty Jo Brydge and Alice Honeycutt; and three brothers: Garland Hopson, Donald Hopson and Michael Hopson.
Brenda made her entrance into this world in 1940 as a 16-pound baby who made headlines in the Asheville Citizen-Times. She loved her cats who kept her on her toes. She was always gardening and preserving her harvest by canning hundreds of jars of food every year. Her door was always open, and you would always be greeted with her warm smile that could light up a room. Then, of course, you would be offered a cup of coffee and something wonderful to eat. Her husband, Fred, was led to build the House of Prayer next door to them which was open to anyone that wanted to come and pray. After worship each Sabbath, everyone was treated to Brenda’s famous salmon patties and that tradition will carry on. The House of Prayer will remain open until the end of time for any and all to come and find solace. This magnificent woman will be cherished by her family and all who knew and loved her.
Surviving is her only son, Tim Peterson (Pam Dease) of Burnsville; her granddaughter, Alecia Troxell Deyton; four great-grandchildren: Izzy, Ronin, Gabriel and Anton; a brother, Stanley “Cotton” Hopson (Sharon) of South Toe; special nieces: Donna “Cricket” Wilson and Deborah Young, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on her birthday, August 26th, at Faith Fellowship Church in Burnsville.
