Cory William Jones, age 52, of Green Mountain, went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 21st at his home in Morganton. A native of Avery County, he was a son of Kenneth Ward Wise and his late mother, Rebecca Hughes Wise who passed away in May of 2024. He is also preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Cory’s life was full of adventure and his favorite place to be was the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, kayaking and hunting. He also loved cars and riding motorcycles. He was a supervisor at My County Metals in Marion and always liked running heavy equipment. He was a mechanic and a collector of junk and when he saw anything he wanted, he always had a plan to use it or fix it. Even if his goal was to fix a car he collected, he had a plan in his mind of how to take 5 or 6 cars to make it what he wanted it to be. Cory loved his family and will be dearly missed by all.
In addition to his father, he is survived by a son, Casey Jones (Brittany) of Roaring Creek; his fiancée, Amy King and stepdaughter, Skylar of Morganton; three sisters: Nichole Gilpin (Matthew) of Squirrel Creek, and Heather Proffitt (John) and Amy Wise of Green Mountain; a brother, Gabriel Wise (Amber) of Roaring Creek; two granddaughters, Aubrey and Aliyah, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 25th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Michael Burnop will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 6 p.m. prior to the service.
Memorial donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Tribute Program at P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142. To send online condolences, please visit the website at www.yanceyfuneralservice.com.
