Joe Murphy, age 85, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 27th, 2024 at Mission Hospital.
A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Cecil and Kathleen Young Murphy. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Patsy Jo Black Murphy; son, Joey “Big Boy Murphy”; sister, Diane Murphy Wilson; brother, Billy Murphy and brother-in-law, Bobby Merrill.
Joe was a simple, kind hearted man. He enjoyed gardening, being outside, watching baseball and his animals.
Surviving is his son, Joel “Little Boy” Murphy and wife, Dana, of Crabtree; grandson, Tyler Murphy and wife, KayLee, of Estatoe; sisters: Beverly Deyton and husband, Rodney, of Burnsville and Shirley Merrill of Morganton and brothers: Clarence “Fuzz” Murphy and wife, Nell, of Burnsville, Morris Murphy and wife, Grace, of Bowditch and Tommy Murphy also of Bowditch. Several nieces, nephews and numerous friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 1st in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Ronnie Whitson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday in the Gouge Family Cemetery.
