Rex Junior Woody, age 64, of Spruce Pine, went Home in the hands of the Lord on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Mission Hospital. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Mallie Woody, Jr. and Peggy Jean Lingerfelt Woody. He was preceded in death as well by a sister, Pamela Sue Woody.
Rex was a manager who was employed at Carolina Water for 35 years from which he retired. His hobbies included boating, fishing and going to the beach, as well as all kinds of sports. He was known as a jokester, always laughing, and had never met a stranger. If he picked on you, then he liked you. Rex was a wonderful provider with a solid work ethic, always making sure he took care of his family. He was a man that will be remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Franklin Woody; their son, Rex Robert “Robby” Junior Woody and wife, Tiffany of Spruce Pine; granddaughter, Victoria Jones; great-grandchildren, Nikias and Ronan Jones, as well as one on the way; two brothers: G.C. Lingerfelt of Whiteville, TN and Hank Woody of Morganton; sister, Tammy Price of Marion; his beloved furry friends, Bo Jack and Buddy; three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 29th, 2024 in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Nathan Silver will officiate. Burial will follow in the Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
