SIZZLIN’ SUMMER SERIES – Homemade Pie, Ice Cream, and Cornhole

Summer isn’t over yet! Enjoy some sweet treats, learn traditional Appalachian dances, and enjoy classic summer activities on the Burnsville Town Square this Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm at the Sizzlin’ Summer Series.

From 10 am to 12 pm, come learn from THRIVE Appalachia’s teen teachers how to make delicious homemade pie and ice cream. Plus play a handmade game of cornhole using boards they made by hand in their carpentry and fine art painting groups and bags made in their sewing classes!

Plus put on your dancing shoes and join Appalachian Performing Arts on the Town Square for the Sizzlin’ Summer community square dance! Get ready to learn some traditional southern Appalachian figures and clogging steps. Grab a partner, bring your family and friends, or come solo. You will also have the opportunity to join RHA to decorate cookies or have your face painted!

Plus the ever-popular Climbing Tower has been rescheduled for this Saturday after it was canceled due to rain on July 20th. Test your skills on the tower between 10 am and 2 pm. You can also wrap up your summer fun with a great book from the AMY Regional Library Bookmobile!

A program of Partners Aligned Toward Health, Healthy Yancey is a partnership of concerned citizens working together to improve the quality of health for all people in Yancey County. Healthy Yancey developed the Sizzlin’ Summer Series to promote connections between neighbors and people, increase physical activity, and create fun ways to play and be active in our community. Sizzlin’ Summer Series activities are appropriate for ALL ages and abilities and are completely FREE!

Thank you to THRIVE Appalachia, Appalachian Performing Arts, and RHA Health Services for making this week’s event possible. We also appreciate the title sponsor Madison Health and Rehabilitation, as well as the Town of Burnsville, Yancey County Government, Vaya Health, and Altec for their support and sponsorship which make the 2024 Sizzlin’ Summer Series possible.

This summer, you can also enjoy the FINAL free pool day of the summer at the Burnsville Pool and the Toe River Campground Pool on August 9th, courtesy of Healthy Yancey and Yancey County Government.
