This year, things are going to look a little different at Mount Heritage High School. Sheriff Shane Hilliard has announced the addition of a second School Resource Deputy to enhance safety and security on campus.
Given the complexity of the Mount Heritage High School campus, Deputy Anthony Renfro and Corporal John York will both be assigned to the school. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for all students, staff, and visitors.
“We recognize the unique needs of Mount Heritage High School and the importance of having a strong law enforcement presence on campus,” said Sheriff Hilliard. “The addition of a second School Resource Deputy will help us address these needs more effectively and provide a safer environment for everyone.”
The Yancey County Commissioners and the Yancey County School Board partnered to fund this position. Their support has been crucial in making this enhancement possible.
Both Deputy Renfro and Corporal York bring over 30 years of experience each and a deep commitment to serving our community. They will work closely with school administrators, teachers, and students to promote a positive and secure school atmosphere.
