Gary “Dean” Godfrey, Sr. age 72, of Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 11th, 2024 at his home. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Dewey and Althea Carr Godfrey. He was also preceded in death by a sisters, Shirley Kee and brothers: Tommy, Ronnie “Bud” and Johnny Godfrey. Dean had never met a stranger. He enjoyed singing, dancing, babysitting with his wife, having his picture made, hunting, car shows and watching westerns. He will always be remembered as a positive and loving man.
Surviving is his loving wife of 51 years, Jean Blankenship Godfrey; daughters: Melissa McKinney and husband, Harold, of Humpback Mountain; Tiffany McCurry and husband, Jeremy, of Bald Mountain and Joni Godfrey of Red Hill; son, Gary Godfrey, Jr. and wife, Stacey, of Blue Rock; grandchildren: Tristan, Ashala, Chloe, Chase, Gage, Logun, Megean (Devin), Colton, Blake, Jeff, Ben, Jerimiah and Eden; great-granddaughter on the way; sister, Glenda Gregory of Burnsville and brothers: Rev. Bobby Silver and wife, Vivian, of Burnsville and Bill Godfrey and wife, Ruby, of Skyland. Numerous extended family members also survive.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 17th in the New Beginning Baptist Church with Rev. Bobbie Silver.
