An investigation conducted by the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the arrest of 67 year old John Walter Willett, III, of Burnsville. Willett hs been accused of engaging in the online solicitation of juveniles for sexual acts.
Willett was taken into custody on 08/13/2024 and charged with Felony Solicit Child By Computer. Willett was transported to the Yancey County Detention Center where he was issued a $25,000 secure bond.
“The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office is committed to the safety and protection of our community, especially our youth,” said Sheriff Shane Hilliard. “We encourage parents and guardians to remain vigilant about their children’s online activities and to report any suspicious behavior to law enforcement.”
Update:
2nd Arrest of John Walter Willett on 08/16/2024. Willett was charged with a 2nd count of Solicit Child By Computer and his bond was increased to $100,000.
