Classic Film “Treasure of the Sierra Madre” at Yancey Library Tuesday, Aug. 20

The Classic Movie Club will show The Treasure of the Sierra Madre at the Yancey Library on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

There is no charge for admission but donations will be accepted for popcorn, candy, and drinks. The evening begins with Chapter 4 of the 1941 science fiction serial The Adventures of Captain Marvel.

This 1948 American Neo-Western film was written and directed by John Huston, and stars Humphrey Bogart, Tim Holt, Bruce Bennett, and Walter Huston, the director’s father. Based on B. Traven’s 1927 novel of the same name, the film follows two downtrodden men who join forces with a grizzled old prospector, in searching for gold in Mexico.

The film is highly regarded by critics and audiences, and is sometimes referred to as Huston’s magnum opus and one of the greatest films of all time. In 1990, the film was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

The library is located on School Circle. For more information, contact Bob Wilson at 682-2609 or email neldabobdwilson@gmail.com or call the library at 682-2600.
