Greg Buchanan, age 65, of U.S. 19-E South in Newland, the Frank community, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024 at his home.
Born on February 14, 1959 in Avery County, he was the son of the late Mack and Willie Hughes Buchanan. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers; Roger and Stephen Buchanan and his sister; Janice Buchanan.
Greg was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was retired from U.S. Textiles. He was a sports enthusiast and an avid fan of Tar Heel Basketball and the Washington Redskins known now as the Washington Commanders. He also enjoyed fishing.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife; Teresa Shomaker Buchanan of the home; his son; Rusty Buchanan of Newland; his grandson; Brennan Buchanan of Newland; his sisters; Janet Miller of Pleasant Gardens and Pam Borders and husband, Ken of Spruce Pine and his brothers; Terry Buchanan and wife, Gaye of Newland and Mark Buchanan and wife, Priscilla of Hickory.
A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The funeral service will be Tuesday, August 20 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Brody Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Carpenter Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special ‘Thank You’ to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge and Pruitt Health for their care of Greg during his illness.
