Ruby Jean Briggs Peterson, age 87, of Spruce Pine, went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.
A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Jay and Mary Cooper Briggs and the wife of Carl Peterson, who passed away in 1999. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Diane Ramsey; son, Joey McKinney; sisters: Edna Peterson and Beulah Thomas; and a brother, Lee Briggs.
Ruby had always been a hard worker. She had worked at Baxter Laboratories, Henredon Furniture and was a private caregiver for many years. She was an immaculate housekeeper who loved flowers, canning, cooking and her church.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Jamie McKinney (Cindy) of Burnsville, Linda Norman of Spruce Pine, Carl Peterson, Jr. (Crystal) of Mountain City, TN and Dallas Kay Peterson (Hazel) of Bluff City, TN; grandchildren: Josh McKinney (Amy), Cody McKinney, Whitney Townsend (Hogan), Mary Beth Hise, Courtney Craig (Caleb), Samuel Ramsey, Rachel Ball (Nathan), Lindsey Pittman (Zach), Joel McKinney, Sheila Ann Peterson, Roger Peterson and Richie Peterson; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings: Frank Briggs (Betty) of Green Mountain, Kathy Kimery (Gary) of Limestone, TN and Pat Baccoli of Weaverville; and sister-in-law, Flora Briggs. Several nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p. m. on Saturday, August 24th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Her pastor, Rev. Cass Buchanan and Rev. Keith Beck will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Isaacs, Terry Peterson, Roddy Pate, Steve Pate, Jim Haggie, Jerry Laws, Mike Thomas, Rev. Dwight Boone, Jr. and Lynn Peterson.
