FREE Home Remedies Community Clinics on August 31st in Mitchell County

Despite the rain, more than thirty people came to Reconciliation House on July 20th to connect, unwind, and address their pain at the Home Remedies Community Clinic. Participants sampled free Chiropractic, Therapeutic Massage, and Acupuncture services from local practitioners and tried out Yoga and Tai Chi classes.

There is one more FREE Community Clinic scheduled in Mitchell County this year if you couldn’t make it to the most recent events. On Saturday, August 31st Home Remedies will hold a FREE outdoor clinic at the Rise Up Recovery Rally on Upper Street in Spruce Pine from 6 to 8 pm.

Rise Up is hosted by Never 2 Scarred Ministry and Celebrate Recovery and will feature live music, a guest speaker, vendors, information related to recovery services in our community, the Home Remedies Community Clinic, and much more.

The FREE Community Clinic offers a chance to sample wellness services like physical therapy, health coaching, pilates, massage therapy, yoga, acupuncture, and more that can help address pain and stress.

The Home Remedies program was born out of a Community Listening Session in 2017 where local physicians, county commissioners, people in recovery, substance use professionals, and other healthcare providers wanted to find ways to prescribe fewer opioid medications. One of the suggestions was looking at alternative ways to manage pain and stress to address the issues before they become so intense that they require medication.

Luckily Mitchell and Yancey Counties have a wealth of talented and experienced complementary health providers who offer wellness services that are proven to help with chronic pain and stress. Some of these options can be hard to access for folks on a limited budget as they aren’t always covered by insurance. To bridge the gap and make these services easier to access for everyone, the Home Remedies program offers FREE community-based options to address pain and stress. The focus of the program is to provide proven, effective, and safe options to improve quality of life, with a goal of preventing and/or reducing the use of medications.

The community clinics are a great opportunity for locals and visitors alike to experience wellness practices and services available in our community at no cost. Everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of your level of pain or stress. It’s never too soon to learn new ways to take care of yourself.

The Home Remedies Program also offers FREE, online courses with strategies for pain management and stress reduction, presented by local complementary health providers. These practices include physical therapy, massage, mindfulness, examination of thought patterns, nutrition, and tai chi. This course is freely available to access at your own pace and convenience.

Mitchell and Yancey residents can also earn vouchers to cover the cost of individual treatment services by completing at least six out of eight classes on the online course.
