AMY Wellness Foundation has won the bid to purchase the Harris Middle School property from the Mitchell County School system. The Board of Education voted to accept the $750,000 bid, which was the minimum amount set by the board. According to Luke Howe, Executive Director of AMY Wellness Foundation, “We are absolutely thrilled that our bid was accepted. The reuse and repurposing of existing buildings for community use, support and housing is a cornerstone of our mission at the AMY Wellness Foundation. These projects are vital in addressing the needs of our community, and we are committed to ensuring that these spaces serve as valuable resources for everyone.” According to Superintendent Chad Calhoun, the foundation plans include a youth center, daycare and nonprofit hub. Finalization of the deal will progress after attorney review of the contract.
