On Friday afternoon, the Marion Police Department responded to an armed robbery at Loves Truck Stop on NC 226 South. An individual was pumping gas when a man approached with a handgun and demanded the vehicle, a 2003 Isuzu SUV towing a U-Haul trailer. The owner stepped aside, and the suspect drove off in the vehicle, with the trailer.
Police and other law enforcement agencies quickly responded and began searching for the stolen vehicle. About an hour later, Morganton Public Safety officers located and stopped the vehicle on Carbon City Road in Morganton.
The suspect, identified as Jon Carlo Lamore of Boone, North Carolina, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, larceny, and assault by pointing a gun. He was denied bond.
