Larry McKinney has resigned his position as councilman on the Spruce Pine Town Board. According to Town Manager Darlene Butler, the Town Council, as a governing body, will receive the letter of resignation from McKinney at tonight’s regular council meeting. North Carolina General Statute provides that the Council is responsible for filling vacancies, but does not specify the timing and method.
Update: At the town meeting the board agreed to take applications for a person to fill the vacated position. They will post application information on the town website, their Facebook page and place ads in the Mitchell newspaper.
