Yancey County Commissioners were recently notified that the county was awarded funding in the amount of $305,725 from the NC State Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) for the Kid Mountain Playground Replacement Project.
Originally built in 2001 with the help of grant funding, and many volunteers in our local community; Kid Mountain served Yancey County well with its unique features and design for 23 years. The Yancey County Commissioners are looking forward to enhancing park amenities at this location with a design that is more inclusive for all ages and ability levels, including ADA handicap accessible equipment.
Local involvement from the community through the planning process over several months was a large part of the success in receiving funding for this project. Yancey County Project Manager Morgan West would like to extend a special appreciation to the many local non-profit organizations and community members that participated or contributed to the process. The bid process is expected to begin late fall with demolition and construction to be complete by next summer.
“We are grateful to be able to transform and revitalize such a wonderful playground for more ages and ability levels within our community for decades to come,” said County Commissioner, Sandi Norton.
