Eva Katharina “Kathy” Schmidt Geouge, age 85, of the Colbert’s Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 10th, 2024, at her residence with loved ones by her side. Kathy was born on August 20, 1939, in Beiersdorf, Germany to the late Karl and Elisabeth (Ebersberger) Schmidt. In Addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by a brother, Karl A. Schmidt (Desert Storm), a son-in-law, Richard “Rich” T. Ryon (US Navy), and a grandson, Cedric T. Geouge.
On July 4th, 1955, the Schmidt family immigrated to the US through Canada and settled in Cincinnati, Ohio, where they lived, attended school, worked, and obtained citizenship. Four years later, Kathy met her beloved, Paul (native of Celo) on a blind date while he was in armored training nearby in Ft. Knox, Kentucky. Paul and Kathy married in February, 1958.
Kathy completed her high school education in Cincinnati, then attended business school through the University of Maryland. She had many interesting jobs over the years including her work as a personal assistant for Thomas Schippers, Conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and later as a programmer with NASA in Maryland. Kathy was most gifted in jobs that required a head for numbers and worked primarily in the accounting field for most of her career. Immediately prior to her retirement, she worked as a certified tax preparer and a real estate agent in Burnsville. Kathy enjoyed living and working in America, often holding down more than one job at a time. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 122 in Burnsville. Kathy was an avid seamstress, and in her spare time she enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, and cake decorating. Kathy and Paul were active members of their community and were instrumental in growing and building the satellite space, as well as the brick and mortar building for Messiah of the Mountains Lutheran Church in Micaville. Kathy and her beloved husband of 67 years were blessed to travel the world and visit all 50 of the United States, a dream inspired by Kathy. She was first and foremost a fierce believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as well as a devoted military spouse, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and aunt who will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish in the memory of Kathy are her husband, Paul; son, Paul D. III and wife Jennifer of Kentucky; daughter, Katherine R. Reep and husband, Walter of Nevada; daughter, Caroline G. Ritchie and husband, Jeffrey of Fairview; twin sister, Regina M. Crockett of Florida; brother, Gerhard Schmidt and wife, Debra of Ohio, brother, Reinhard Schmidt and wife, Sharon of Georgia; grandchildren, Lindsay, Lauren, Eric, Kyla, Nathan “Alex”, Julia, Melanie and Ernest; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
