In response to rumors circulating the Yancey Sherriff’s Department has issued the following:

We are aware of a Snapchat post circulating in several districts and counties over the last few days regarding a possible school shooter. At this time, there is **no credible evidence** of any threat to our schools.
We take every report seriously and every precaution possible to ensure our students and staff are safe.
2nd POST:
We have an important update regarding the Snapchat post circulating about a possible school shooter. After further investigation, we’ve confirmed that this post originated over **three weeks ago in another state** and was shared by a Yancey County student purely for information.
At this time, there is still **no credible threat** to our schools. We appreciate the community’s vigilance and encourage everyone to continue reporting concerns directly to law enforcement rather than sharing unverified information.
