PRESS RELEASE

The Town of Spruce Pine is excited and grateful to announce that we have been awarded a grant for $1,484,275 from the Economic Development. Administration to complete the funding for the Highway 226 Water Line Extension from McHone Road (near the Cruz Thru) to Swiss Pine Lake Drive (near McDonald’s). The Town plans to replace approximately 5,300 linear feet of water main. The project will replace an existing 2-inch substandard and aging line with 8-inch ductile iron, and replace associated hydrants. This EDA Grant will combine with a previously-approved Golden Leaf Grant to fund the project, which is estimated to cost $2,209,625. Completion of the line will support expansion of jobs and fire protection in the Grassy Creek area.
