Donald “Don” Martin Smith, age 75, of the Bee Log Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 24th, 2024. A native of Jamestown, TN, he was the son of the late Elmer and Ruby Bertham Smith. He was preceded in death as well by two uncles, Lenord Smith and Elza Smith.
Don loved living the life of a farmer and raising cattle and horses, in addition to his other livelihoods. He was a hard-working man who always provided for his family. He retired from BWX after working there many years, but once he settled in at home, he realized he would much rather stay busy and went to work with Fox Brothers Paving, as well as working in their country store. Don always had a smile and kind words for everyone he met, and has always been known as a #1 man. He adored his daughter, as well as her four sons, and they were his life. He was the greatest father figure to his grandsons and his daughter, and was and forever will be their hero. He taught them about hard work and being a good provider, to always have a positive attitude and to treat others with kindness. Don was the rock of the family and will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 55 years, Brenda McIntosh Smith; his loving daughter, Melissa “Missy” Hoilman; four grandsons: Colby Hoilman and wife, Bailey, Dalton Hoilman, Ashton Hoilman and Bryson Hoilman; special uncle, James B. Smith and wife, Wanda, of Dandridge, TN; an aunt, Nellie Smith of Hendersonville, TN; and good friend, Harold Fox. He is also survived by several cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 6th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Royce Ball will officiate. Burial will follow in the Holcombe Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Colby, Dalton, Ashton and Bryson Hoilman. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
