The North Carolina National Guard is investigating an incident in which recovery supplies for Hurricane Helene were blown away by a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter at the Roses distribution center in Burnsville. On October 9th, Major General Todd Hunt, the Adjutant General of the NC National Guard, addressed the situation, stating, “I’ll take responsibility for it; we own it. The rotor wash caused that damage, and the crew has been grounded.”
The NC National Guard explained that the helicopter was delivering generators, but as it attempted to land at a site with too many people and supplies, the rotor wash caused items to be scattered. The crew quickly identified the issue, aborted the landing to ensure safety, and left the area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Despite this mishap, we remain deeply grateful for the efforts of the North Carolina National Guard and all other local, state, and national organizations that have stepped up to assist our region during this time of great need.
