Tommy Benjamin Carpenter, age 91, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024, at Grace Hospital in Morganton, NC. Born on March 11, 1933, in Table Rock, NC, he was the beloved son of the late Eva and Robert Carpenter.
A proud United States Army Veteran, Tommy served his country with honor. Above all, he was a devoted family man whose best times were spent in the company of those he loved. Whether teaching his children and grandchildren to drive or sharing simple moments at family gatherings, Tommy’s joy was found in being surrounded by his loved ones.
Tommy had many talents and interests, including his love for classic cars and working on small engines. His favorite pastimes also included going to yard sales and flea markets, always on the lookout for a great deal.
A man of deep faith, Tommy was an active and dedicated member of Stamey Town Baptist Church, where he was known for his kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand. He will be remembered for his love of family, his hard work, and his joy in life’s simple pleasures.
In addition to his parents, Tommy is preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Dixie Carpenter, and his grandson, Ian Calloway. He is also preceded in death by his siblings: Melvin Carpenter, Mason Carpenter, JL Carpenter, Lee Vonda Pyatte, Amos Carpenter, and Andy Carpenter.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Christine Calloway (Terry) of Three Mile and Joyce Nations (Tom) of Crossnore; his granddaughters, Cailan Calloway (Shawn) and Ceara Cuthbertson (Chris), both of Morganton; his great-grandchild, Lola Cuthbertson of Morganton; and his sisters, Della Mae Ellis of Morganton and Elwanda Cook of Clemmons. Tommy is also survived by his step-grandchildren, Karen Deweese of Clyde, Karla Payne (Matt) of Weaverville, and Tommy Nations (Stephanie) of Waynesville, along with his step-great-grandchildren, Kailey and Jillian Payne of Weaverville, and Lydia and Eden Deweese of Clyde.
Serving as pallbearers will be; Kelly Carpenter, Jack Padgett, Van Pyatte, Eric Ellis, Keith Cook, Matthew Payne, Chris Cuthbertson and Shawn Deese.
He will also be lovingly remembered by a host of nieces and nephews.
The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service for Tommy Carpenter, which will be on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 12:00 pm at Stamey Town Baptist Church with Reverend Jeff Brewer officiating. A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 10:00 am until the service hour at the church. Interment will follow in the Stamey Town Church Cemetery.
