Robert Oscar Hoilman, age 74, of Bakersville, passed away on Sunday, October 13th, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Ralph and Dorothy Phillips Hoilman. He is preceded in death as well by four sisters: Betty Wilcox, Nora Nell Wayson, Rebecca Doris Hoilman and Debra Weiford; two brothers, Herbert and Albert Hoilman; three brothers-in-law, Rodger Cochran, Daniel Cochran and Carl Lafon; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Betty Penson Cochran.
Robert had a number of hobbies that included bass fishing, listening to oldies music, and was an amazing woodworker, making toys for his children and grandchildren over the years. He was known as a “jack of all trades” and could fix anything mechanical. He also had a wonderful sense of humor. Robert was a goodhearted man and was loved by everyone, especially his family.
Surviving is his loving wife of 56 years, Andrea Cochran Hoilman; his children, Andrew Lee Hoilman (Melissa) and Sandra Louise Hoilman, all of Bakersville; six grandchildren: Juanita Roberts, Danielle White (Quentin), Brandon Hoilman (Amanda), Matthew McKinney, Tyler Hoilman and Nicholas Olson; six great-grandchildren: Kavion, Jaylen, Zameer, Ahvani, Brandon, Jr., Aleah, Robert Kirkland and Christopher Kirkland; a sister, Hettie Wilcox of Bakersville; a brother, Ralph Hoilman, Jr. (Melody) of Bakersville; three sisters-in-law: Anita Gorman (Roy) of Maryland, Brenda Lafon of Maryland, and Marlene Cochran (Marty) of Oklahoma; and four brothers-in-law: James Cochran (Susie) of Maryland, Harold Cochran (Lorena) of Maryland, and Skip Weiford (Donna) of Bakersville. He is survived as well by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 20th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Pastor Skip Weiford and Pastor Brett Hoilman will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hoilman Cemetery in Bakersville. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
