The Town of Spruce Pine has published an update on the water treatment facility. According to the news release, two portable wastewater treatment units have been located and ordered. The property to locate these units has been secured. Duke Energy has been contacted about electricity needs, and is committed to being ready to provide energy. At the same time, plans are being carried out to make emergency temporary repairs to the remainder of the sewer plant. Between these 3 sites, the town will be able to capture the system’s sewer discharge. The project should be completed in a few weeks.
The N.C. Dept. Of Environmental Quality is aware of the town’s needs and plans, and supports the Town in this engineered emergency response.
