Mildred Ann Renfro, age 81, of the Jacks Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on October 24th, 2024. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Hiram and Birdie Bradford Willis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Renfro; sisters: Reba Ward, Minnie Jane Wilson and Linda Miller and a brother Johnny Willis. Mildred was a long-time member of Mine Fork Freewill Baptist Church who loved her church and her church family. She graduated Cane River High School class of 1961 where she earned the honor of Salutatorian for her class. Mildred turned down the opportunity so that it would benefit her classmate that was going to get to attend college. She enjoyed reading her Bible, Amish and Christian books, sewing and quilting and especially loved her grandson Elijah.
Surviving is her sons: Dennis Renfro and Ethan Renfro and wife, Brandi; grandson, Elijah Renfro; sisters: Dessie Wilson and Martha Tipton and a brother, Ronnie Willis and wife, Veronica, all of Burnsville. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, October 28th at Yancey Funeral Services. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, October 29th in Mine Fork Freewill Baptist Church. Rev. Ricky Bennett will officiate. Burial will follow in the Tipton-Griffith Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Kenneth Miller, Craig Miller, Steve South, Ronnie Lee Willis, Terry Willis and Mark Ledford.
