The North Carolina Baptists on Mission, formerly NC Baptist Men, have put in a bid to purchase the old Deyton Elementary School from the Mitchell County School System. The organization has placed a $775,000 bid, which the school board has posted as notice to any other interested parties. The Mitchell County Board of Education voted to allow Superintendent Calhoun to proceed with the sale if everything goes through as expected. The North Carolina Baptists on Mission plan on using the facility as a volunteer hub for disaster recovery construction projects. The board also decided to stop advertising Harris Middle School property for sale and instead consider using it as a career and technical education facility.
