Allen Buchanan, age 66, of the Bear Creek community passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024 at his home.
Born on January 5, 1958 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Hattie Burleson Buchanan and the Rev. Vernon Buchanan who still survives.
Allen retired from Mayland Community College where he served as a graphic artist. He was a graduate of Bowman High School, McDowell Technical Community College, and Isothermal Community College. He was an active and faithful member of the Mitchell Baptist Church.
Allen was a born again Christian and was strong in his faith. He enjoyed music, attending car shows and was known as a car enthusiast. He had an enormous amount of knowledge about computers, working with them, and took pride in learning the newest and latest computer skills.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of forty-two years, Sherri Barnett Buchanan of the home, his father, Rev. Vernon Buchanan of Bakersville, his brother, Chris Buchanan of Bakersville and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 1:00 pm, followed by the memorial service at 2:00 pm at Bear Creek Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev’s. Chris Rathbone, Blake Glenn, Dale Buchanan, and Bruce Cannon.
The family would like to extend a ‘Special Thank You’ to the Staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for their care of Allen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge or Mitchell Baptist Church.
