Billy Joe Young

Billy Joe Young, age 84 of Burnsville, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 3, 2024.

Born on November 30, 1939, he was the son of the late Friel and Maphra Tipton Young.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Anna Ruth Young; brother, Hal Young; twin sister, Betty (U.B.) Deyton; sister-in-law, Linda Cox.

Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a man of steadfast faith, a dedicated family man, and a friend to all.  He spent his life surrounded by those he loved and cherished. Bill was a devoted member of Green Mountain Baptist Church, where his faith shone brightly. He was never one to hide his love for God and lived his life as a testament to his beliefs. Throughout his life, he embodied strength—strength in character, in conviction, and in his unwavering love for his family. For 66 years, Bill was the cherished husband of Betty Lou. Their marriage was an inspiration, filled with love, respect, and mutual admiration. Together, they raised a son, instilling in him values of honesty, integrity, and kindness. Bill’s legacy of character continued with his grandchildren, who became the lights of his life. He adored them deeply and embraced every opportunity to spend time with them. Later, he welcomed two more grandchildren through marriage and showed them just as much love. In the last year, the arrival of his great-granddaughter, Adeline, brought even more joy to his life, if that was even possible.

Bill was a hard-working, compassionate, and yes, sometimes stubborn man. He was a man of little words, but you listened when he spoke. His warmth and humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met. A simple man at heart, he found joy in life’s little pleasures—his tobacco, Coca-Cola, and the company of his beloved dog. Bill was the kind of man you wanted on your side, and the kind of man you would strive to be. His legacy of love, strength, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Lou Young; son, Bobby Joe Young of Burnsville; grandchildren: Mandy (Kenny) Bryant of Jacks Creek and Caleb (Kaitlin) Young of Green Mountain; a great-granddaughter, Adeline Louise Young; brothers-in-law: Larry (Rhonda) Peterson, Ronnie Cox; sister-in-law, Lavenia (Kimmy) Burnette; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville, NC. The family will be receiving friends and loved ones one hour prior to the service for visitation. Reverend Ricky Bennett will be officiating.
